Hey Reader! Drink less Pop, and more Water!

What’s up? Reader here, with a question for you.

How much water do you drink?

Traditionally, I always remember seeing that the average person should drink about eight glasses of water per day. Is that large glasses? Small glasses? Who knows.

I was poking around online, and according the the Mayo Clinic’s website, the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine says an average, healthy man living in a temperate climate should drink about 3.7 litres a day, while the average woman should power back around 2.7 litres each day. (Their website says “liters,” but we’re in Canada, pal! It’s “litres” around these parts!)

Now, I have a water jug that I keep at work, but it’s only about 1.2 litres, and I drink at least one of those during my morning shift. But, according to that recommendation, I should be crushing about two more per day. Trouble is, I also drink too much Coke Zero, and I drink milk at home (nothing wrong with that – thank goodness I’m not lactose intolerant!) So I do drink a lot of fluid, but just not enough water. Gotta work on that.

Another issue I have, is that I don’t drink enough straight-up water. The only time I drink water by itself, is when it’s ice cold. It’s gotta have ice, or be ice cold, or I can’t drink it.

Cold tap water or room temperature water just doesn’t do it for me. And that’s where the flavour enhancers come in. I do go through a lot of this stuff…

Two of my personal favourites.

I go through a lot of Mio, Crystal Light and other flavour enhancers, to give my water a little something extra. The two above are two of my favourites, along with the lemonade flavour, and the Crystal Light “Blackberry Lemonbabe” flavour. (Yes, that actually is what it’s called!)

Here’s the issue I run into, though.

Are these water flavour enhancers any good for me, or are they chock full o’ stuff that isn’t all that healthy?

As you can see, the only thing this particular brand seems to have in it is a lot of potassium, and not much else.

It doesn’t seem to have much in the way of sugar, which is good for me, as I have to be mindful of my blood sugar.

So, I’m guessing it contains an artificial sweetener of some sort.

I s’pose in the long run, I’d have to consume a truckload of this stuff to have a real long-term harmful effect on my health.

But, I’m no scientist.

What the heck do I know?

All I know, is that they add delightful flavouring to my water, which, in turn, gets me drinking more high quality H20.

Seems to me, that’s a good thing in itself.

There are some kinds, though, that I wonder about their nutritional value.

Kool-Aid, Crush and Good Host Iced Tea (the BEST iced tea) have their own enhancers as well, but are they any better or worse?

I guess I’ll have to start doing a little more research to find out for myself.

Maybe I need to look at finding some more natural methods of adding flavour to my water.

I put our handy A.I. assistant to work, to come up with some natural solutions to flavour my water, without the use of artificial additives, and here’s what it came up with…

Embrace the goodness of nature with simple, delicious water enhancers straight from your kitchen!

Imagine sipping on water infused with the crispness of cucumber slices, the zing of fresh lemon, or the sweetness of ripe berries.

It’s not just about flavor – these natural additions come with a little boost of vitamins and antioxidants, making your hydration both tasty and nutritious.

Perfect for those who crave a hint of flavor without any added sweeteners.

Herbs can also work wonders—try a few sprigs of mint for a cooling effect or a dash of ginger for a spicy kick.

Each combination offers a unique taste experience, turning plain water into a delightful beverage you’ll look forward to!

So, in any event, I guess if I want to work on my health, and get back into fighting shape, after a winter of sitting on my butt, staying in out of the cold, I need to get up and get moving. And drink more water!

I’m a work in progress, but I’ll start by trying to hydrate in a more healthy way!
