Just over forty people were in attendance as SJHL’s Yorkton Terriers held their 2024 annual general meeting last night (Mon) in National Bank A Room at the Gallagher Center.
From the meeting, Curtis Malysh was named as the new President taking over the outgoing Corvyn Neufeld, who decided to not seek re-election to the board.
“I’m honored by the opportunity, I have big shoes to fill with Coryvn stepping down, but I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead to continue to make Terriers’ hockey strong for years to come,” Malysh said.
The Terriers are coming off a season where they missed 2024 playoffs under the first-year guidance of Head Coach & General Manager Emery Olauson, after finishing with a record of 21-30-2-and 3.
Off the ice, the Terriers admitted earlier this year the club was experiencing a financial crisis stemming from a lack of consistent fundraising efforts, a loss of revenue from season cancellations due to the pandemic.
The evening did show positives back in the right direction as the financials showed a profit of $149,439 from the fiscal year, ending May 31st, 2024.
“It was a profitable fiscal which is great, a lot of that was the strength of our season ticket blitz which the money will be deferred to this season, but also a couple of one time payments including a $80,000 grant from the City of Yorkton and around $40,000 from a the RBC Community fund, but still we’d still show a profit of about 30-thousand dollars from the 2023/24 season,” Terriers Treasurer Jason De Ruyck said.
“We hope to continue the momentum from this Spring as we have a couple more fundraisers happening in the Ag project and a Ladies Night in the Fall but yes we are in a much better place financially then we were even a few months ago”, Malysh added.
The Terriers will kick off their training camp ahead of the 2024/25 SJHL season on Friday, August 30th at the Westland Insurance Arena.
