Mother’s Day is just around the corner and I’m sure many of us are starting to think about how we can show our appreciation for the amazing moms in our lives. For some of us, like myself, who have moms that live far away, celebrating Mother’s Day can be a bit challenging. My mom lives all the way in Ontario while I’m here in Saskatchewan, about 3000km away or so. So I don’t think I can make a quick last minute visit.
So, how can we still make Mother’s Day special for our moms when they are so far away? Here are a few ideas that might help you celebrate your mom from a distance:
- Send a thoughtful gift: Even though you can’t be there in person, sending a thoughtful gift can show your mom how much you care. Whether it’s a bouquet of flowers, a personalized gift, or her favorite treat, a little something to let her know you’re thinking of her can go a long way.
- Write a heartfelt letter: Sometimes, words can speak louder than actions. Take the time to write a heartfelt letter to your mom, expressing your love and gratitude for everything she has done for you. It’s a simple yet meaningful way to show her how much she means to you.
- Plan a virtual celebration: In this day and age, technology allows us to connect with our loved ones no matter the distance. Plan a virtual celebration with your mom, whether it’s a video call, a virtual dinner party, or even a game night. It may not be the same as being there in person, but it’s a great way to spend time together and create lasting memories.
- Share old memories: Take a trip down memory lane by sharing old photos, videos, or stories with your mom. Reminiscing about the good old days can bring you closer together and show her how much you cherish the moments you’ve shared.
- Make plans for a future visit: While you may not be able to visit your mom this Mother’s Day, you can always start planning for a future visit. Whether it’s for her birthday, a special occasion, or just because, having something to look forward to can make the distance feel a little bit smaller.
Shoutout to my mom for having me.
