What’s up? Reader here. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Man, I love live music!
Tonight, Olivia and I had the pleasure of introducing High Valley, and special guest Tim and the Glory Boys, at the Anne Portnuff Theatre.
And what a great show it was!
Prior to the show, Olivia and I joined some lucky contest winners for a meet-and-greet with High Valley frontman Brad Rempel, and what a nice dude!
To kick off the show, we welcomed Tim and the Glory Boys to the stage
Tim and the Glory Boys were great, bringing a show full of great music and fun.
In a nod to their Canadian roots (they’re from B.C. by way of Manitoba), they described their music as “not Bluegrass, but Canoe-grass!”
The band celebrated ten years together in 2023, wining a pair of Junos over that span, and celebrated their first decade by winning two CCMA’s, for Album of the Year, as well as Video of the Year, for “Float!”
They played that and several great tunes that got the crowd going, including their new tongue-in-cheek winter protest sing, “Beach, Please,” and what may have been my favourite, “Me Without You.”
They got the big crowd primed and ready for the headliners, as High Valley took the stage.
They had the crowd on their feet, dancing, clapping and singing along with great tracks like “Make You Mine,” “Young Forever,” “Dear Life,” and the title song from their brand-new EP, that came out this month, “Small Town Somethin’!”
The best part, was that for a band that has been around since ’97, travelling the world doing what they love, playing music together, winning awards, and topping charts, they’re nice guys.
Having had a brief opportunity to chat with them backstage before they went on, they were super friendly and humble.
Both bands were, and I think you can chalk that up to their small town prairie roots, with High Valley hailing from small-town Alberta. That relatability goes a long way, and is a big reason that their loyal fan base will continue to grow.
